Following the adoption, in December 2005, of the EU Strategy for Africa and a number of EU-Africa high level meetings in 2006, there has been an increased consensus among European and African leaders regarding issues of peace and secruity, human rights and governance, trade and integration, and development. In the spirit of integration, solidarity and cooperation, it was decided to hold a Europe-Africa Youth Summit on the eve of the forthcoming 2nd EU-Africa Summitt being held on the 8-9 December 2007 in Lisbon.
The Lisbon Summit hopes to focus it's discussions on the fight against poverty, climate change, illegal migration, as well as new initiatives on education, health and peacekeeping.
